The RINA Spray Dryer operates continuously by atomising slurries into a vertical drying tower. It is especially well-suited for use in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and food industries.

This technological solution is particularly suitable for pumpable, heat-sensitive products that require gentle and prolonged drying to produce a fine dry powder.

Flexible product feeding with high-pressure or bi-fluid systems
Product feed can be handled via a high-pressure system or a bi-fluid nozzle. The drying tower is dimensioned based on the nozzle specifications (speed, spray angle, droplet size) and the flow rate of the hot air stream, which determines the tower’s diameter. Drying time defines the required tower height.

Efficient powder separation via pneumatic system
The mixed stream of vapour and dry particles is conveyed pneumatically to a powder separation system. Various configurations—such as cyclones, bag filters, and scrubbers—are available to minimise fine particle loss and meet local emission requirements.

Specialised configurations for corrosive and hazardous products
For highly demanding applications, such as drying corrosive or toxic products, Riera Nadeu offers custom-designed spray dryers manufactured with selected materials (e.g., Hastelloy), compliant with OEB4 containment requirements, and equipped with an automatic CIP system.

Safe and customisable operation
From a safety perspective, RINA Spray Dryers can be adapted for installation in explosion-risk areas, with the required certifications or approvals. The system can also operate in a closed-loop configuration using nitrogen when necessary.
