Tanks and reactor units

Specialists in tanks and reactor systems

Nordic Engineering is your dedicated partner for advanced tank and reactor solutions for the process industry – where high demands are placed on design, complexity, and documentation.

Experts in tanks and agitators

We design, calculate, deliver, and install tanks and reactor units in all sizes.
We specialize in tank and reactor systems equipped with agitators.
Through longstanding partnerships with leading agitator manufacturers such as EKATO and Zeta, we have developed deep expertise in agitation technology.
This expertise allows us to deliver tank and reactor solutions that ensure reliable agitator performance.

FEA calculations

We perform the necessary structural calculations to ensure that reactor systems can withstand both static and dynamic loads from the agitator, as well as any vibrations. Pressure vessel calculations alone are often not sufficient – in most cases, a Finite Element Analysis (FEA/FEM) is required.

Pressure vessel calculations

For pressure vessels, we conduct calculations using industry-standard software such as Hexagon VVD (Visual Vessel Design) and Hexagon PV Elite CX.
We base our calculations primarily on EN 13445, AD2000 Merkblätter, or ASME VIII Div. 1.
This ensures that all pressure equipment complies with the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED 2014/68/EU).
In cases involving custom designs where standard software is insufficient, we use FEM to verify and analyze the given design.
We manage your tank project from start to finish – ensuring it meets all applicable requirements, directives, and standards.

Tank equipment

We deliver tanks and reactor units complete with all the necessary instrumentation and accessories to match your process requirements, including; process lights, sight glasses, process cameras, CIP spray balls, bottom valves, sampling valves, instrumentation, load cells and more.

Process-driven tank design

When it comes to design, we always begin with your process – what is happening inside the tank or reactor?
The process defines the solution, and the tank or reactor design is developed accordingly to ensure optimal process results.

Agitator integration

Tank design includes the selection and integration of a correctly dimensioned agitator, as well as ensuring the tank is properly designed to accommodate it.
We have the technical know-how to secure reliable agitator operation.
Due to the significant dynamic impact agitators have on tanks, we analyze the tank’s strength and natural frequency.
We use FEA to ensure stability and prevent unwanted deformations or vibrations.

Heat transfer in reactor design

Reactor applications often require heat transfer.
Heat transfer calculations are among our key competencies and are an integral part of our tank design process.

  • The process may generate heat, requiring the tank to be designed with appropriate cooling capacity.
  • The process may require the fluid to reach a certain temperature within a specific time, meaning the tank must be designed for sufficient heating capacity.

Heat transfer calculations demand a high level of expertise.
We consider the cooling/heating jacket or coil design, the agitator design, media and material data – all to determine the overall heat transfer coefficient. This allows us to calculate the required heat transfer area and the temperature of the cooling or heating medium.

Materials

We supply tanks and reactors in a wide range of metallic materials, including stainless steel, duplex, carbon steel, Hastelloy, Inconel, Monel, nickel, titanium, and more.
We also offer tanks in fiberglass, thermoplastics, and plastic-lined materials.

Experts in sanitary and hygienic tanks

Our tanks and equipment for the pharmaceutical industry are designed and manufactured under strict quality and documentation requirements.
All surfaces are finished to meet demanding industry standards, using either mechanical hygienic grinding and polishing or electropolishing.
Our hygienic designs focus on cleanability and complete drainage.
We perform riboflavin tests on all tanks prior to delivery.
Pharmaceutical tanks are constructed from FDA-approved materials and can be designed in compliance with ASME BPE standards.
We deliver tanks with heating/cooling jackets or coils in various configurations, tailored to your specific heat transfer requirements.

Examples of our pharmaceutical tank range:

  • Bioreactors
  • Fermentation tanks
  • Product tanks
  • Crystallization tanks
  • Dissolution tanks
  • Slurry tanks
  • Preparation tanks
  • WFI and PW tanks
  • Mobile tanks
  • Buffer tanks
  • Mixing equipment and other accessories

Quality

We ensure quality through our comprehensive quality management system.
We document every aspect of your tank or reactor and guarantee full material traceability.
We also prepare and execute protocols such as RTM (Requirement Traceability Matrix), FAT (Factory Acceptance Test), and SAT (Site Acceptance Test).
